Psychiatrist
Qualifications.
The
contract physician is required to be a Doctor of Medicine or
Doctor of Osteopathy and hold a current valid license to legally
practice the specialty of psychiatry in one of the 50 states in
the United States,
or the
District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,
or a U.S. Territory.
The physician shall have completed a psychiatric
residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate
Medical Education.
Shall have sufficient experience to
effectively provide psychiatric medical services for adult
patients with a variety of illnesses.
Be competent to treat
adults for crisis intervention and ongoing psychotherapy/medical
management.
On occasion, when performing
on‑call duty or seeing a hospital consult, the contract
psychiatrist may be required to treat a child or adolescent for
crisis intervention and acute stabilization.
Be able to respond to
cardiopulmonary arrests as appropriate, and arrange appropriate
backup from the hospital clinical staff.
As a minimum, contract
psychiatrists shall have and maintain a current Basic Cardiac
Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
Must possess controlled substances
registration certificate from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
IAW the laws of the state in which he/she is licensed.
Description.
The contract psychiatrist shall provide
psychiatric services including, but not limited to the
following:
Attend and participate in meetings during
normal duty hours and professional staff conferences and other
appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to
the following: Quality Improvement meeting, professional staff
meetings, Commander's staff meetings, Department meetings, and
others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as
directed by the Chief, Department of Psychiatry or his/her
designated representative.
Outpatient Services.
Comprehensive evaluations of
Soldiers in Training, Permanent Party Soldiers, family members,
and retirees according to the quality assurance guidelines of
the American Psychiatric Association, the U.S. Army Medical
Command, and Moncrief Army Community Hospital.
History of present
illness and past history.
Review patient histories and social
work evaluations, interview patients to obtain insight into
their problems.
Mental status
evaluations, formulations, diagnosis(es) and detailed treatment
plans utilizing a biopsychosocial paradigm.
Make referrals for further
diagnostic psychologic or medical testing as needed.
Provide individual, group, marital, family,
and pharmacologic therapeutic interventions as necessary.
Provide crisis intervention and referral for
psychiatric hospitalization.
Provide psychotherapy to include group,
individual, behavior modification and drug therapy.
Work as a team member
with other psychiatrist(s),
social worker(s), psychologist(s),
and behavior science specialist(s) to coordinate evaluations,
treatment planning, and referrals.
Determine the need for supplemental
data such as psychosocial history, medical history, neurological
or other medical procedures or tests, etc.
Establish diagnosis and treatment
plans for each patient.
Review patient
histories and social work evaluations, interview patients to
obtain insight into their problems and determine the need for
ongoing treatment.
Prepare inpatient workup to include
history and physician treatment plan.
Inpatient Services.
May be required to provide
psychiatric services to adult inpatients during on‑call duty or
when covering for inpatient psychiatrist.
Diagnose and establish treatment plan for
each patient and initiate inpatient workup to include history
and physician treatment plan.
Determine the need for follow up outpatient
care.
Provide consultations on psychiatric disease
to the MTF staff physicians.
Maintain documentation,
records and reports in accordance with MTF rules and
regulations.
Complete necessary fitness for duty
reports in a timely manner.
As appropriate, communicate with patients,
patient's families and others to obtain personal and social
information pertinent to the development of adjustment
difficulty and to ascertain probable impact on the individual,
unit, and community.
Provide in-service
training to MTF staff during his/her regular scheduled hours.
In-service training is informal training to/by staff
members to update treatment procedures.
In-service training is held approximately once a month;
preparation is at the discretion of the provider.
Hours of Operation.
Qualified physician
to render adult psychiatric services on a full‑time basis Monday
through Friday excluding Federal Holidays for the Department of
Psychiatry at Community Mental Health Services.
Normal duty hours are 0730-1630 hours, including an hour
lunch break, which is not paid by the government.
Hours are subject to change as mutually agreed between
the contractor and the government.
