Internal Medicine Physician

 

Qualifications.

 

The physician must be a Doctor of Medicine or a Doctor of Osteopathy who is board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine.

 

The physician must possess and maintain a current license from one of the 50 states or territories of the United States.

 

The physician shall have no record of disciplinary action that would currently exclude, suspend or terminate the provider as an authorized provider under this contract.

 

The physician shall possess and maintain a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number (certificate) to prescribe controlled substances IAW the law of the state where services are provided.  The licenses and certificate must be renewed and maintained in a current status during the life of the contract.

 

The physician must meet all the required credentials and stipulations of practice as described in the hospital Medical Staff Bylaws.

 

The physician must have and maintain certification in basic cardiac life support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

 

Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to include, but not limited to the following:

·         Cardiovascular diseases- congestive heart failure, hyper-tension, arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarction

·         Respiratory diseases-asthma, bronchitis, pulmonary thromboembolism, and pulmonary insufficiency and adult respiratory distress syndrome

·         Gastrointestinal diseases-peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, pancreatitis, cirrhosis and alcoholic liver

·         Endocrinology-diseases of the thyroid, diabetes mellitus

·         Rheumatology-sarcoidosis, degenerative joint disease

·         Renal-acute renal failure, urinary tract infection

·         Infectious diseases-infectious diarrheas, bacterial infections, hospital-acquired infections, infections of the compromised host, tuberculosis, and other micro bacterial infections

·         Neurology-epilepsy, cerebrovascular disease

Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform the following medical procedures, to include, but not limited to the following:

·         Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation

·         Graded exercise treadmill testing

·         Central line placement

·         Arterial line placement

·         Intubation and airway management

·         Hemodynamic invasive monitoring

·         Lumbar puncture

·         Paracentesis

·         Thoracentesis

·         CPR

·         Bone Marrow Biopsy

·         Pulmonary Function Test Interpretation

·         Ventilator Management

 

Contract physicians shall be able to read, write and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other health care providers. Foreign medical graduate physicians shall possess a valid certificate from the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates.

 

Contract physicians shall be required to meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.  The government will not reimburse for these costs.

 

Description.

Hours of Operation.

The hours are as follows: Friday 0730-1630, Saturday 0730 until Sunday 1630, Monday thru Wednesday 0730-1630, and Thursday 0730 to Friday 0730. These duties include but are not limited to caring for all medicine/family practice patients admitted to the hospital’s general medicine ward and Intensive Care Unit; and consultations and admissions from the Emergency Medicine Service. Generally, these duties require the physician to be in the facility during daytime hours. Evening and weekend duties can be performed from outside the facility except for required weekend rounding and needing to come in to perform hospital admissions. The physician should be available within the hospital within 30 minutes of being paged.
