Idaho
North Idaho North Idaho has the greatest concentration of lakes of any western state. From fishing to water skiing, sailing to canoeing, or just simply gazing at their beauty, the lakes and rivers of Idaho are well worth the trip. The world famous Coeur d’Alene Resort, Silverwood Theme Park, historic attractions like the Cataldo Mission or the mining towns of Kellogg and Wallace are just a few of the reasons North Idaho attracts visitors from all over the world. North Central Idaho Lewis and Clark, Chief Joseph, Hells Canyon, wilderness, world class jazz, college football and wild rivers. Welcome to the Northwest Passage. Idaho's Northwest Passage is joined by a network of highways through some of the most scenic country in the world. It is host to world class outdoor recreation, from whitewater rafting to bird-watching, snowmobiling to camping. Two major universities ensure a cultural diversity unparalleled in the state. Southwest Idaho Visitors to Southwest Idaho have unique and memorable experiences and often wish they could stay longer. It is easy to understand why! With vibrant cities, historic towns, breathtaking scenery, world-class whitewater, desert canyons, agricultural communities and year-round outdoor recreation Southwest Idaho offers something for everyone. Want to try whitewater rafting or kayaking? We have some of the best. Does skiing sound like fun? Southwest Idaho boasts two ski resorts. Interested in history? Oregon Trail pioneers and early Native American tribes left their mark on the area. South Central Idaho – The Great Rift The Great Rift is a 625 square mile geological wonder that is essentially the earth's "plumbing system." This pathway drove molten magma to the surface in a series of fissures, spatter cones and lava tubes and the result is the amazing terrain of our high desert area. The Great Rift represents the intense forces of nature and this geological phenomenon makes South Central Idaho unique and wondrous! Southeast Idaho A Land of Pioneer History, Indian Traditions and Wide—Open Outdoor Recreation! “Pioneer Country” offers visitors a wide variety of scenic sites and recreational activities! Here the land is steeped in history. Today you can admire the same forests, mountains, rivers and lakes, as those early-day trappers, soldiers and wagon-train pioneers passed through... and where early Mormon pioneers settled. Plus, you can enjoy the many recreational activities this land and its people provide visitors, like Lava Hot Springs, Massacre Rocks and the National Oregon/California Trail Center. East Idaho Also known as Eastern Idaho’s Yellowstone-Teton Territory, this place boasts the snow-capped peaks of The Grand Tetons, thundering waterfalls, glistening lakes and free-flowing rivers. This is the place where elk and moose graze in the grasslands and where deer and antelope play. This is where you can watch wild swans fly and eagles soar. The trappers chose this place because it’s easy to get to, yet to this day, remains pristine and uncompromised. Eastern Idaho has always been a magnet for adventurers. A neighbor to Yellowstone and Teton National Parks, it shares much of the same spectacular beauty and awesome adventure ... but without the crowds. Central Idaho – Sun Valley The majestic peaks of the Central Idaho Rockies captured the imagination of America's skiing public in the '30s. These spectacular vistas and seemingly endless runs have kept skiers and snowboarders talking ever since. In fact, the readers of Ski Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, and Gourmet magazines all recently voted Sun Valley the #1 ski resort in the country. Sun Valley was the piece of American landscape that Ernest Hemingway "Papa" loved best of all. It was Hemingway’s refuge, where he wrote in the morning and hunted and fished in the afternoons. Sun Valley's thriving art scene offers a variety of different and exciting mediums. In 1999, the Sun Valley area was listed 18th in the recently published book, The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America – "a great small art town with a nice balance between the visual arts, theater, and music." Art galleries and craft shows showcase local talent, theatre groups perform professional pieces in various local venues, and the sounds of symphony and jazz fill the summer's crisp night air and cozy winter nights.
