Licensed Vocational Nurse
(Maternal-Infant Unit )
Qualifications.
Be a graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse or
Licensed Vocational Nurse Program or have previous experience as
a Corpsmen and passed the LVN exam.
Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice as an
LVN/LPN in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia,
the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin
Islands.
Additionally, if you are licensed outside of the 50 States you
must provide proof of having successfully passed the Licensed
Practical Nurse National Council Licensure Exam (LPNCLEX).
Descriptions.
Perform a full range of diagnostic support duties that include
taking vital signs, collecting specimens, obtaining, recording
and tracking results of diagnostic tools.
Assist the physician in a variety of diagnostic examinations and
procedures assuring patient privacy, comfort and safety.
Perform basic laboratory tests such as checking urine for sugar.
Record and report results.
Observe, document, and report all observed symptoms, reactions,
treatments and changes in the patient condition to the
registered nurse, physician extender or physician. Make careful
observations to assess nursing procedures and treatment.
Execute physician’s orders within the guidelines of standard
nursing practice. Ensure accurate medication is administered in
correct form and dosage to the proper patient as directed by the
physician.
Administer immunizations in a safe and accurate manner with
strict adherence to all applicable Immunization policies.
Perform a variety of procedures ordered by the health care
providers within scope of LVN practice.
Receive patients seeking information or treatment in person or
via telephone.
May be required to interact with computer systems to verify
patient eligibility for services and demographic information
prior to scheduling patient appointments; check-in patients;
enter information regarding appointment status; and complete end
of day report. Print ADS forms, check for completeness and
correct errors.
Provide nursing care for and assistance to patients in meeting
their personal hygiene needs such as bathing, feeding, lifting
and turning.
Performs nursing procedures specific to the patient’s antepartum,
intrapartum and postpartum needs.
Starts or superimposes intravenous fluids without additives and
withdraws blood, as certified to do so by the California Board
of Vocational Nurses and this medical treatment facility.
Measures and records body temperature, pulse, respiration and
blood pressure in the patient’s medical record; fetal heart tone
(FHT) baseline, identify FHT deceleration, acceleration; monitor
frequency intensity, duration of contraction patterns.
Maintains accurate Intake/Output.
Captures patient information in the logbook and other MTF
automated systems (e.g., CHCS, ADM) and maintains obstetric
simulation data sheets.
